City Meet Info and RSVPs Needed

Those of you attending SMI received a detailed email earlier. Please read through it all and let me know if you have any questions.

Unfortunately there will be no food truck tonight as originally planned.  Sorry for any inconvenience.

Tomorrow, Friday, July 12th there will be an optional/make-up practice focusing on starts and turns from 7pm-8pm – all ages.

Below are some MUST Dos to participate in City meet AND Tuesdays Home meet…

    To Dos:

1.RSVP for GKAISA City Meet Championship by SUNDAY July 14th at noon
General info (more details to come):

    • Preliminary Day 1 - Sharks 10 and under swim Thursday, July 25th- warm ups at 1pm
    • Preliminary Day 2 - Sharks 11yrs. and up swim Friday, July 26th – warm ups at 7am
    • Championship – Saturday July 17th . Warm ups begin at 7am. The Top 18 swimmers (all ages) from preliminaries for each event of the previous two days will return for the final championship score. The top 16 swim, 17 & 18 are alternates.

Where: UT Campus - Alan Jones Aquatic Center

Pools: This meet uses one pool for boys (8 lanes at the pool closest to the diving well) and one pool for girls (10 lanes in the pool closest to the scoreboard) on Friday and Saturday for preliminaries, and then one 8-pane pool for the Finals session on Sunday. Pool depth is 8-feet at ends, 9-feet in the center. Seating for the 1,284 spectators is available in the balcony overlooking the pool for free. Only workers and coaches are allowed on the pool deck.

    2.  Order your City Meet Shirt : Every year, GKAISA sells a special city meet shirt that must be pre-ordered. Proceeds from t-shirt sales go to help defray the costs of City Meet and to assist in funding scholarships for senior swimmers. This year's shirt will be a light blue with a cool sunsphere design. Cost will be $15.

Shirts must be ordered and paid online on our website. Click the SHOP tab at the top or go directly there at Sizes are Youth S, M, L and Adult S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL.

The deadline for orders is 12pm on Sunday July 14th, and the shirts will be handed out at city meet.

Note that there is usually a shirt vendor at city meet that can make a custom shirt with heat-pressed decals, but those are more expensive and less durable than this screen-printed shirt, in my opinion. I highly recommend pre-ordering this one.

*We will also have caps available for purchase soon – so keep a look out

3.Sign up for City Meet jobs: Please sign up for city meet jobs online at In addition to the callers, we also staff a volunteer coordinator at the Clerk of Course and the relay entries table inside on the pool deck. There are "in training" jobs if you haven't done it before but are interested to learn.

Each year our team runs the entire Clerk of Course at City Meet - it's a HUGE job and one that we take great pride in. Because of this responsibility, we get A GREAT tent spot behind AJAC.

Our own Jim Hemsley runs the whole clerk of course operation, and our team supplies the "Callers" - the people who call out the names to seat the kids in lane order for each heat. This is a job that our gulf park DADS really excel at, but of course anyone with a good authoritative voice who can handle herding cats... er, I mean kids... is totally welcome. The more of us we have, the less your shift time is!

We will have a prep meeting soon – keep a look out for details, then come have a beer and learn more about the job if you are curious.

4.RSVP your swimmer and sign up for jobs and donations for Tuesday’s home meet vs. Gettysvue.

As with all meets – if you do not RSVP online by the deadline your swimmer CANNOT swim.

Thanks and as always, let me know if you have any questions or need more info
