SMI 2017 Recap
SMI 2017 Recap-
With scoring 510 points at the Smokey Mountain Invitational this year the Gulf Park Blue Sharks scored their team high for the past 3 seasons. The Blue Sharks had 8 wins, six came from individual swims and two from relays. There were also 15 top 3 swims, 22 top 5, and a grand total of 46 scoring swims with 15 relays that scored. All of these numbers are an easy way to prove that we swam well but do they tell the whole story? No, they do not. They cannot describe the pure joy that our high schoolers take into their racing. Numbers cannot show the determination of our entire 9-10 girls age group, or the calm focus of Carson Joiner, or the unbridled happiness of the Collins boys. Numbers do not do justice to the smiles on the kids faces after they competed in a race for the first time (50 and 100 freestyles). And of course it is impossible to quantify the excitement and nervousness of all the parents as they watched their children step up onto the blocks. I am certain that we had a great Smokey Mountain Invitational this year. Attached are a copy of the results from SMI. With only one week to go in the season I am confident that as a team we are achieving goals every day and having fun doing so. Thank you for a great summer and lets finish strong!
