    Smoky Mountain Invitational This Weekend

Great Meet last night, thank you to all swimmers and families!  What a great way to go into the Smoky Mountain Invitational this weekend!  SMI is a great event for summer swimmers with over 1,500 swimmers from more than 30 teams over two days; the largest outdoor swim meet in the country!!  No year round swimmers may compete at Smoky so it really is all about the summer swimmers!!

    When:

**Sharks swimmers 11 years and older will swim on Saturday, July 15th.

**Shark swimmers 10 years and younger will swim on Sunday, July 16th.

Where:  Springbrook Park located at 636 Vose Road, Alcoa, TN  37701

    Tent Location:

Our tent should be behind the slide in the middle section, more or less the same location as last year.  If there is a change, we will send out the new location!!

Arrival Time:   We only get 15 minutes for warmup, so it is VERY important to be on time!  Please be in our tent (behind big water slide) by:

7:00am on Saturday (11 and up)

6:45am on Sunday (10 and under).

Please give yourself plenty of time to arrive, park, and get settled under the tent prior to warm ups. Warm ups, in the pool, are currently posted as being 7:20am Saturday in lanes 3 and 4 (11 and up swimmers) and 7:05am Sunday in lane 6 (10 and under swimmers).  It is very important for all swimmers to be at warmups and check in with the coaches.  All swimmers should look for the other swimmers in their relays and be sure they are all there!  Coaches will be turning in relay cards during warm up so if you are late you might be replaced on the relay.  Warm ups are going to be very crowded so we need time to organize our effort.  Please be on time.

*Note:  As with meets, it is important that you stay and complete ALL of your events.  The Saturday session timeline has the last event ending at 5:47 and has historically run until approximately 6:00 PM and the Sunday session timeline has the event ending at 3:12pm and has historically run until 4:00 PM.  If you are scheduled to be on a relay please do your part and do not leave early, your 3 teammates want to swim too.  In planning your day – expect normal delays to that time, and hope for no weather-related delays.

*Note:  FALSE STARTS - Smoky Mountain uses a false start rope. Please remind your swimmers about this detail. If someone in their heat false starts, the false start rope will drop. If a swimmer hits the rope, they should return to the starting blocks.

Parents - one of the first stops you will make upon arrival is to purchase a Heat Sheet by the pool entrance.  They are available for purchase for approximately $5.00-$10.   While we will have provided you with event numbers for your swimmer, this will give you heat numbers and approximate swim times (bringing a highlighter is a great idea!!).  The clerking tent is also located in this area.  Parents of younger swimmers, this clerking tent is where you will bring your swimmer to be lined up for their events.   You will hear calls for events on the speaker system. Please pay careful attention to calls, both first and second, and allow plenty of time to bring your swimmer to the clerking tent.   Also, especially for younger swimmers, putting their name on their back with a Sharpie will help both in the clerking tent and with the clerk of course!!
